Armed robbers

Police and military in Wakiso have foiled a robbery incident involving armed four thugs terrorizing residents of Kikaya, Bulenga.

Police reportedly swung into action in the wee hours of Wednesday morning at 1:00 am after receiving a distress call of armed robbers storming resident’s homes. The suspected thugs armed with pangas attacked the home of Ssempijja Bruno, and cut him and stole his mobile phone. They then proceeded to attack other locals in a similar manner.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says a patrol team of police and UPDF under Wakiso Police Division caught the thugs robbing two other households belonging to Gladesi Mugerwa and Ronald Mutebi a Journalist with the New Vision.

Owoyesigyire says the security officers were compelled to discharge live bullets to disable the thugs, injuring two in the process. He says the remaining two fled the scene of crime unharmed.

“The two thugs sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for first aid. The duo has been identified as Kato Joseph and Kabale Sula, all residents of Kikaya. They have also provided information about their colleagues that escaped and the hunt is on to have them arrested too.” Owoyesigyire explained

He told our reporter Minah Nalule that police have since recovered stolen items from the two suspects including Phones; 1 HTC white in color, Nokia blue in color, Samsung black in color, Infinix black in color, BLU black in color and Huawei black. Also recovered from the scene are two new sharp pangas, a torch and a stone.

Owoyesigyire says the suspects have since confessed to other crimes that happened in the same area and as soon as they recover, they will be processed and arraigned in courts of law on charges of aggravated robbery as we hunt for their accomplices.

He has advised the general public to always have the numbers of their OC station for quick response.

According to the police annual crime report for 2021, 16,340 cases of theft were reported per month in 2021 compared to 16,328 cases in 2020.Theft of cash had 5,435 cases.
