Five people have been pronounced dead and eight others injured after a Toyota Hiace (drone),overturned severally on Thursday at Kyasitiri along the Kyenjojo_Kyegegwa Highway.

The vehicle Reg No UBK077S was carrying thirteen people on board when its car tyre burst along the highway.

Faridah Nampiima, the Uganda Traffic Spokesperson has identified the deceased as Byamukama Hebert aged 46 years, Katusabe Consolata  aged 47 years and a male juvenile only identified as  Agondeze all residents of Kyaduri Kyenjojo District, two bodies of male adults ar still unidentified.

The injured are Nabagereka aged  59 years a resident of Hesi Bunyangabo District, Asaba Bibohere aged 44 years a resident of   Kyarusozi Kyenjojo District, Katesigwa Noah aged  45years  a resident of   Kyaduri Kyenjojo District,  Wabaire Sam 32 years a resident of   Rweza Makindye Sssbsgabo, Junior Samuel aged  20 years a resident of   Mugusu Bunyangabo District, Atuhaire Fatuma  aged 32years a resident of   Mabira Kyaduri Kyenjojo District, Kemigabo Juliet 27 years, a resident of   Kicucu Bunyangabo District

Nampiima told our reporter Minah Nalule that all victims have been rushed to Mubende referral Hospital for further Management, while the bodies of the deceased conveyed   at Kyegegwa Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

Incidents of road accidents have been on the rise lately. On May 17, 2022, three people died on spot after a taxi traveling to Kampala from Masindi lost control and overturned at Migyera town.

The taxi tyre burst, causing it to lose control and overturn severally. The injured were rushed to nearby health centres for first aid treatment.

This incident came just days after another accident claimed 11 lives and left 34 others badly injured in Bukomansibi District. The nasty accident involving a Fuso truck reg . no carrying 45 people happened at Kawoko –Kigaba Village, Bukomansimbi District along Masaka-Villa Maria –Sembabule Road. 27 people suffered fractured legs, arms and ribs while seven sustained minor injuries.

Prior to this incident, another truck carrying 70 casual workers overturned at Ikoba junction in Masindi District, killing five people on the spot.

Recently, the Works and Transport Ministry was compelled to halt operations of the Link Bus Company after a horrible accident at Ssebitoli about 13Km from Fort Portal City claimed 21 lives and left scores injured.

According to the latest traffic report, 120 people died in road crashes between April 24 and May 14, 2022.
