A total of 10 notorious suspected robbers have confessed to committing thirteen robberies and terrorizing locals in Mukono district.

This comes as police launched an operation to crackdown on armed robbers attacking and stealing from locals at home and their businesses.

The suspects arrested include; Nduga Reagan, Kalyango John, Mugalu William, Mbogo Sam, Kirumira Nathan, Ssenkubuuwa Isma, Kizito Eria, Kinagodawa Asuman, Katende Umar and Golola.

The suspects admitted to joint security forces including the police and military that they are part of a wider group of thugs responsible for multiple robberies in the area.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says the joint security forces have since recovered several exhibits used by the suspects including; five motorcycles, a gun, nine pangas and housebreak-in implements and several suspected stolen properties.

Enanga says the suspects confessed to robbing Gitta Immaculate Nanyombi at Kasangalabi cell, Mukono Municipality on December 09, 2021,with pangas, before taking her 10 mobile phones, 2 flat TV screens, 3 Lenovo laptops and 3 game tablets. On the June 06 2022, the same group attacked businessman SSenkungu Kizekya, robbing his property worth 6.1m shillings.

He adds that on June 17,2022, they also attacked Kabonzi Richard, another businessman at Namubiru village in Mukono district and robbed his motor vehicle, music system, phones and other items all valued at 18 million shillings.

Enanga has called on business owners to invest in security to beat the new wave of organised crime.

“We continue to remind retail owners that agents of organized crimes are targeting their business. It is therefore, important for them to commit more resources into hiring more security guards, target hardening, use of bright lights, conspicuously placed security cameras that sent alerts to a manager’s phone, which can help police respond faster.” he says
