67 rowdy suspects on remand

Security forces in Jinja City continue to crack down on perpetrators of violent protests over fuel and commodity prices.

On Monday, notorious groups ganged up on major highways within Busoga Region, burning tyres and blocking roads with heavy stones in protest of government’s failure to address the current economic crisis.

The angry youth also attacked pedestrians, business-owners and bodaboda riders at different trading centres along both the Jinja-Kamuli and Jinja-Iganga highways, for refusing to join in their fight.

A section of the violent youth were arrested on Monday while others fled into hiding during running battles with the police and military. However, Police has made progress in arresting and remanding them.
