Affair with boss’ wife

The Army Court Martial has remanded a soldier to jail for having a sexual affair with his boss’ wife.

Lance Corporal John Nuwagira is on remand in Makindye Military Barracks on charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline.

He had appeared before the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) General court-martial chaired by Brigadier Robert Freeman Mugabe on Tuesday.

The soldier reportedly breached some provisions under the UPDF Act of 2005.

The Court heard that in 2021 while at Makenke in Mbarara District, Nuwagira developed an indecent relationship with Annet Kobusingye, the wife of Lt. Robert Turyahabwe who was serving in Somalia.

He was arrested shortly after Kobusingye’s husband, also a Prosecutor in the Unit Disciplinary Committee (UDC) at Makenke Military Barracks (Second Division) reported the matter.

Turyahabwe claimed that when he left Mbarara in 2019, Nuwagira kept disorganising his family by engaging in a sexual relationship with his wife.

Turyahabwe is currently a Legal Officer at the Masaka Armoured Brigade.

However, Kobusingye denies being married to Turyahabwe because he never introduced or wedded her officially.

The Prosecution led by Lt. Alex Lasto Mukhwana informed the Court that the investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

Nuwagira, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to Makindye Military Police Barracks until 29th August 2022.

According to the UPDF Act, once found guilty, Nuwagira is liable to dismissal with disgrace from the army.
