Nkufeelinga by Ykee Benda and Chembazz, was dropped on my desk, with one simple assignment to it – “I want you to tell me if Ykee has still got it.”

I grabbed my headsets, listened to every bit of it…not once but about five times. In my mind I was like hmm, this is just another fairly good song. Matter of fact, the song somewhat talked to me. During the period of its release, I was eying a certain city bird but her friend wasn’t about to give me her digits!

So, I knew my submission would be biased. I told the colleague to give me more time for a conclusive analysis. Well, here I am, sharing my take on this song; Nkufeelinga by Ykee Benda and Chembazz.

First off, I will say- he (Ykee Benda) does.

His voice is still crystal clear, but that bit is deliberate. His vocal control is unwrinkled and he gets to his high tones, effortlessly. Just like the late Good Lyf crooner, Moses Radio (hope I’m not going overboard), the transition is seamless.

Ykee Benda has mastered the call-and-answer format, because he uses a peak at the top of the call, so that the answer is one that is easily prompted. This helps an artist to come up with some of the catchiest hooks in town, which is one of the simple but important things which help make music so memorable.

All that is evident in Nkufeelinga, a love ballad which is bossing airwaves now. Something about a good song, it finds a way of breaking through, with little fuss and yes, Nkufeelinga is up there. On YouTube, it has already accrued over 204,822 views. This amazing record was written by both Ykee and Chembazz and produced by multi-Zzina Award nominee, Bomba. The video was shot by Aronaire.

Another thing to admire about Ykee, is his composure- never in a rush to release new music. But when he does, he makes sure the product is fireee!
