Police officer threatens to shoot LC I

A police officer in Namisindwa District is in trouble for threatening to shoot to death, an LC I chairperson of Ituko cell in Magale Town Council over a disagreement.

The cop in question has been identified only as Wabuna, attached to Magale police station.

Wabuna reportedly pointed his gun at Irene Mutonyi and threatened to open fire at her, accusing her of reporting him to his senior and ruining his reputation.

According to Mutonyi, it all started in late July, 2022, when locals discovered a baby of approximately 6 months dumped at Magale Parents High School. The baby was handed over to Mutonyi.

Stranded with the baby, Mutonyi decided to take the baby to a nearby Magale Police Station where she found Wabuna on duty.

Wabuna advised her to keep the baby for at least two more days as police searched for its biological mother, a request Mutonyi accepted.

Mutonyi says after spending over a week without hearing from the police in Magale, she forwarded the matter to the Elgon Region Police Child Protection Unit for help.

However, Mutonyi’s actions angered Wabuna who attacked her and pulled out his firearm, threatening to shoot her for reporting him and his colleagues to their superiors.

Wabuna reportedly threatened to finish her off any day. These statements have since given Mutonyi sleepless nights as she fears for her life.

Wabuna has since declined to comment on the accusations, saying he isn’t authorised to speak to the media. He referred our reporter to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson.

Taitika says he is yet receive a briefing on Mutonyi’s complaint.

He, however, advised her to seek legal redress, saying that no security officer is allowed to threaten to shoot innocent civilians.
