Army impostor jailed

A ruthless man impersonating a soldier in Lira City has been remanded to prison for aggravated defilement and child trafficking of a 17-year-old girl.

The suspect has been identified as Steven Aine Mugisha, a resident of Tesobar Village, Lira City West Division.

Prosecution alleges that between 2016 and 2022, Mugisha recruited, harboured, received, maintained and transported the now 17-year-old girl by means of deception or position of vulnerability for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

According to prosecution, on Friday last week, the suspect stormed St. Katherine Girls Secondary School in Lira City demanding to pick up a senior III student whom he has been taking care of. However, the school authorities denied his request on grounds that the girl had reported him for sexual abuse. It is then that he was arrested only to be released under unclear grounds.

However, he was rearrested Tuesday.

Mugisha earlier today appeared before Grade One Magistrate Court sitting in Lira on charges of defilement and child trafficking.

The charges against him are in line with Cap.129 and section 3 and 4(c) of the penal Code Act and trafficking of children under Cap. 3 section 1a and 5a of the prevention of trafficking in persons.
