SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the ongoing La Vuelta a Espana, as well as other major cycling events, from Wednesday 24th August to Sunday 11th September 2022.
SuperSport is the ultimate destination for cycling fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.
La Vuelta a Espana continues with Stages 5 to 21, with one of the riders to watch being Remco Evenpoel of the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team. According to team boss Patrick Lefevere, the 22-year-old is ready to challenge for general classification honours.
“He did everything he could to be ready,” said Lefevere. “So much so that I sometimes feel sorry for him. I don’t know anyone that age who trains at altitude so often, who trains so much, who works with so much mania.”
French world champion Julian Alaphilippe, who will contest the Vuelta with Remco in the Quick-Step jersey, believes the youngster is a threat for the title: “In his current condition, he is capable of doing great things and we will help him to do the maximum. Everything is possible. I hope he will win. He can do it. And if he does not win, he can do great things, great numbers, great wins. That’s the goal of the team.”
This period of cycling on SuperSport will also feature the Deutschland Tour, GP de Plouay: Women’s Elite and Bretagne Classic: Men’s Elite, as well as the Tour of Britain from Sunday 4th to Sunday 11th September.
The event dates back to the first British stage races held just after the Second World War, and this year’s event will be concluded with Stage 8 on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Dan Martin, a former Tour de France stage winner who used to train on the island, said: “I know these roads very well and it’s safe to say that this stage is potentially harder than it may appear.
“The Isle of Wight is full of short, steep climbs – like the one coming out of Ventnor, for example. There’s the potential for crosswinds along the Military Road, which could play havoc with the tired legs in the peloton, before the final sting in the tail comes in the form of the climb up to the Needles. Whoever takes the victory will be a deserved winner. I can’t wait to see how the racing plays out!”
