Stepmother burns child
Police in Natete have arrested a heartless stepmother for burning the stepdaughter’s buttocks with burning charcoal and denying her treatment.
Prossy Nabatesa, 28, a resident of Kigwanya zone, Rubaga division in Kampala is on the spot for torturing the 9-year-old child (names withheld) in the absence of her biological father.
The minor was left in Nabatesa’s care by one Israel Lule, the father, who is currently doing Kyeyo abroad.
The child remains in excruciating pain, can barely sit and is rotting from the buttocks because she was denied access to the necessary treatment.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the matter was brought to the attention of the police by the area LC 1 following concern from locals.
He says preliminary investigations show that on 18th August 2022, at 1:00pm, Nabatesa pushed the minor on hot charcoal she was trying to extinguish.
Owoyesigyire says the minor was in the kitchen where two charcoal stoves were lighting, one with boiling content while the other the victim was trying to extinguish.
He says in the process of putting out the fire, the victim made an alarm, attracting the attention of Nabatesa from the living room, thinking that the minor had poured the boiling content.
Without looking clearly, Nabetta just pushed the victim backward to the burning charcoal stove setting her buttocks on heat. After the incident, the suspect did not take the victim to any health facility for fast aid.
Owoyesigyire says Police officers responded to concerns of locals and arrested Nabatesa t Natete Police station.
He adds that the child is currently receiving treatment. They intend to connect her to a social worker who will help get her a home while police trace her relatives.
