Man swept away by running water
After a long search, police has finally discovered the lifeless body of a 20-year-old bodaboda rider, who accidentally slipped into running water at Masajja, Salama valley, Kampala on Tuesday afternoon.
Locals and police under the fire and rescue services recovered the lifeless body of Ibra Lukwago on Wednesday morning at Mayanja Swamp, after searching for long hours at night.
The deceased, a resident of Masajja Kibira zone, was overpowered by running water as he tried to cross the makeshift bridge but was instead swept into a trench full of water following a heavy downpour.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the deceased was discovered at the side of the Mayanja swamp. He adds that efforts to get the body for a postmorterm at the City Mortuary were futile as the father to the deceased, Musa Sekitivu refused the procedure on grounds that the cause of his son’s death is already known.

Onyango has now cautioned the public to be extra vigilant while crossing bridges or drainage channels especially after it has rained.
This incident comes as police in Kampala are still searching for an additional two bodies of bodaboda riders who drowned in a similar manner.
On 6th September 2022, Police discovered the body of an unidentified man stuck in a trench following heavy rains at night at Church zone, Najjanankumbi, Lubaga division in Kampala.
On 3rd September 2022, one Herman Katende, 24, and a resident of Kosovo zone Makindye division Kampala, drowned in running water during heavy rains in the night as he tried to save his wife who first fell into the water as they walked home.
His body was found the following morning in a swamp at Kosovo zone.
