The Ministry of Health has confirmed that as of October 2, 2022, four Ebola Virus Disease patients had recovered and were discharged from the hospital.
On Tuesday, the MOH spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyona reported that the four, all adults were recently admitted at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital with symptoms of the disease and their samples tested positive.
According to the MOH statistics, as of October 2, 43 active patients have been registered with 9 deaths and 882 contacts identified and listed.
Ainebyona says the health workers at the facility have done an excellent job in ensuring that patients are treated properly. He also encouraged community members to visit hospitals as soon as they detect signs and symptoms of the deadly virus disease.
“Health workers have done a good job and community members, the earlier you present in hospital, the better for you. So whoever has symptoms and signs consistent with Ebola, reach out,” says Ainebyona.
He adds that surveillance has been beefed up in the affected districts of Kassanda, Kyeggegwa, Kagadi, Bunyangabu and Mubende, the epicenter of the outbreak.
A Kampala International University medical intern who was working at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital tested positive for Ebola Virus Disease in Bunyangabu district making it the fifth to register a confirmed case. The case is in isolation and receiving treatment at the moment.
Ainebyona further explains that Ebola treatment units remain at Mubende and Madudu Health Center 3 where the index patient was registered.
He however says the health ministry has already equipped other hospitals with the necessary PPEs with aid from the U.S government.
