The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, explains that police was informed by locals that an unidentified female was lying unconscious on the road. However, by the time she was rushed to Mulago hospital her condition had worsened and she died over the weekend.

The husband of the deceased, Simon Peter Oketcho informed police prior to the discovery of her body that she called home and informed them she was first buying meat before jumping on a boda boda to head to Mbalwa. However, that was the last time they heard from her.

“The deceased called him at 8:45 pm to know whether he had reached home. She informed him how she had branched to buy roasted goat’s meat opposite Cynabel supermarket,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police is treating her demise as a case of aggravated robbery because unspecified amounts of money and phones were stolen from the deceased.

Now local leaders in the area want police to crack down on increased crime in the area where criminals in gangs waylay victims and steal their valuables.

Michel Ssendawula, the Chairman of Nsawo zone in Namugongo says there is need for intense security in the area and a crackdown on gangs that have claimed lives and stolen properties in Kira Municipality.

Ssendawula says they have registered several complaints of motorists and pedestrians being attacked, killed, or injured by criminal gangs.

Alweny’s death comes just weeks after a relative to the NRM Eastern Region chairman Cpt. Mike Mukula was hit by the iron bar hit-men in Namugongo-Buloli zone on September 12th, 2022.

The deceased George Ekochu, an auditor and cousin to Mukula was attacked on his way to pick up some items for his wife from the nearby shops.

The deceased’s wife Jocelyn Ekochu told Police that when she moved out of the home to search for her husband, she found his hat lying by the roadside.

Owoyesigyire says that the police have since intensified motorized patrols in the area.

“We have increased operations to ensure crime in the area goes down. It has not been the norm but admits we have started to see a spike in crime in the area and more emphasis is going to be done to rid the area of crime,”says Owoyesigyire.
