Serial robber nabbed in Ndeeba

Police at Katwe have caged a serial robber and gang ring leader behind a string of robbery attacks within the Kampala Metropolitan area.

The suspect Yiga Charles was picked up by security operatives on Tuesday afternoon in Ndeeba, Rubaga Division during an intelligence led operation to crack down on increasing crime.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Deputy Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says Yiga is a habitual robber, who has since confessed to having participated in a spate of robberies in a criminal racket. He says Yiga has colleagues in areas of Kabowa, Salama Road, Najanankumbi and Busabala.

Owoyesigyire told our reporter Minah Nalule that the operation was carried out in areas Ndeeba, Namasuba, Salaama also led to a recovery of Narcotic substances and suspected stolen items.

While at police, Yiga admitted to stealing over 7 Television set, several subwoofers and home theatres that were sold to one Senkumba Muhammad who was also arrested on Wednesday.

Police also recovered several stolen items including 10 TV sets of different sizes, 10 pieces of iron boxes and 12 speakers of different hoofers were also recovered.

Owoyesigyire notes that Yiga has on several occasions been arrested and arraigned in courts of law on allegations of aggravated robbery using machetes’. He is currently out on bail on an offence he was charged with, in 2019.

He adds that Yiga’s current case file will be submitted today Thursday to the office of the Resident State Attorney for advice and probable sanctioning on allegations of robbery and possessing suspected stolen items.
