Uganda Certificate of Education Examinations for 2022 have officially kicked off on Friday October 14 with a briefing session for the candidates.
A total of 349,445 candidates were registered and are scheduled to sit the examination in 3703 Examination Centres. Of these, 175,923 (50.3%) of the candidates are males, while 173,522 (49.7%) are females.
A total of 114, 200 (32.7%) of the candidates are funded under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) Programme, while 235,245 (77.3%) candidates are Non-USE. Fifty one candidates who are inmates in Luzira Upper Prison and will also write their examination from the Prison exam centre.
This year’s examinations will be conducted under the theme ‘Integrity and security in the management of examinations; the health and safety of learners is a joint responsibility’.
Written examinations starts on Monday October 17, 2022 with Mathematics one in the morning and Mathematics 2 later in that afternoon.

The examination body has however warned that anyone found committing examination malpractice directly or indirectly faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of 40 million shillings or both.
Dan Odongo, the UNEB executive director says culprits found dealing fake material or leaked examination material will be arrested and upon conviction be jailed 10 years or a fine of 40 million shillings.

He also explains that section 26 of the Uganda National Examinations Board 2020 amendment law targets school heads, invigilators and scouts who aid candidates to cheat, saying this poses 20 million shilling penalty or 5 years in jail.
Odongo has further warned that candidates who will be found cheating one examination paper will have the entire examination squashed.
“We are aware of people who around this time begin running around purporting that they have examinations and duping the public including the candidates to buy these materials, so when arrested, these penalties will apply.To the candidates, involvement in malpractice in one paper will result in cancellation of results in entire examination,” says Odongo
