Uganda’s entertainment industry has in the recent past seen the female embrace the industry, not only musically. Some have gone on to try fingers on deejaying, a largely male-dominated field. The latest entrants, have however come with a bit of sexuality – flaunting this and that. That’s just not enough, analysts seem to suggest.
According to media personality, Bryan Mckenzie Sabiiti, “There is no valid reason why Female Deejays shouldn’t be critiqued the same way male Deejays are.”
Sabiiti does not call out anyone yet.
However, some time not long ago, a female DJ was having fan at an event she was playing when he stept off her set to go vibe with the crowd when another DJs recorded set encroached on her set. The DJ ran back to the machines, sweating. The DJ had just been exposed. But according to Sabiiti, “If your skill is lacking, we shall call you out, young, old, Nyash or Nyashless.”
Just get your skill set in check, he warned.
Baboon Forest Entertainment which is largely identical to sensational rapper GNL Zamba suggests that while it is okay to call out these over irregularities, it is also important to start addressing them as DJs not just female DJs.
