Mother accuses two medical workers of killing 9 months old son

Police in Kampala are investigating two medical workers attached to Daphine Medical center in Kabalagala, Makindye Division, for allegedly killing a 9 months old baby.

The suspects: Dr. Doreen Akuku and Joan Nabakooza, nurses at the facility were caged at Kabalagala Police Station on Friday last week following a complaint filed by the mother to the deceased identified as Geraldine Ainembabazi.

Ainembabazi accuses the duo of causing the sudden death of her son, Messiah, who was brought to the clinic for routine vaccination. In her statement to police, Ainembabazi says her infant convulsed moments after vaccination and efforts by the duo to resuscitate him, hit a snag.

Ainembabazi says she was referred to Mukwaya General Hospital in Nsambya with the unconscious child but upon arrival, medical personnel at the facility confirmed to her that the baby was long dead.

Ainembabazi says after learning that the child had actually died, she ran to the nearest police station and reported the duo.

“When I reached Mukwaya hospital, the doctors there just looked at my baby and they told me I had taken there a dead body. They told me that baby had long died and the referral I was given was just a waste of time,” Ainembabazi told the police.

According to Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, they have collected a toxicological sample from the victim “and we are now waiting for the results.”
