Police in Kawempe have started investigations into circumstances under a man driving a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) driver gunned down a boda boda rider at Kawanda Secondary School.

The suspect identified as Abudu Sali, reported to the school on Friday morning to pick up a senior three student breaking off for third term holidays.

Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire told our reporter Minah Nalule that Abudu picked an AK47 gun from his ride and used it to kill one Waligo Ronald, a resident of Kirinya Bigo Kawanda in Wakiso at about 9:50 am after the duo got into a heated argument at the school gate.

He says preliminary findings indicate that Abudu was exiting the school premises in a UPDF car Reg. number  H4DF 1939, when he met with another car from the opposite direction, trying to enter the school gate. He explains that both drivers declined to pave way, prompting Abudu to squeeze his car against the wall where Waligo had parked his motorcycle bajaj boxer Registration number UEG 721C.

Owoyesigyire says an offended Waligo confronted Abudu and the two had a fiery exchange that attracted other boda boda riders to defend their colleague, in the process, Abudu rushed to his car, pulled out the AK 47 rifle and killed Waligo instantly, before driving off at a breakneck speed.

He explains that police have since retrieved CCTV footage to confirm eyewitness accounts of the incident. The footage shows the deceased was shot on left shoulder and the bullet came out from the right shoulder killing him on spot.

The deceased’s lifeless body is currently at Mulago City Mortuary.

He says they are working with the UPDF to help identify the driver for statement recording and Prosecution.
