Security operatives clothed in civilian wear have on Monday afternoon arrested Joseph Kabuleta,  the leader of National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED).

Kabuleta was captured forcefully at about 1:00 pm from his offices in Bugolobi, Kampala, under unclear circumstances. Neither police nor Military have released a statement on his sudden arrest and whereabouts.

However, sources at his office who witnessed the arrest allege that two of the five armed personnel driving a numberless black drone car stormed the offices unannounced, forcefully entered the gate and dragged Kabuleta into the car before whisking off to an unknown destination. Kabuleta had just concluded his routine press briefing at the offices.

Some allege that he could be in custody at the Criminal Investigations’ Directorate(CID) in Kibuli.

In November 2022, Kabuleta was summoned by police over sectarian and tribal comments he made on May 30, 2022. He was directed to appear before police CID Commander at CPS, but refused to turn up.

It is alleged that Kabuleta published material that promoted sectarianism, nepotism, parochialism and tribalism hence in-sighting the public.

According to the Commissioner of Police Chelimo Beeta, Kabuleta was summoned to appear on November 03, which never happened.

Kabuleta has since dismissed accusations levied on him as a political ploy to disorganize his agenda.
