Fnally Pearl Magic Prime….

When we think about the trials facing Uganda’s youth, what comes to mind? If your answer is human trafficking, drug use and transactional sex, then you’re on the money.

These and other touchy subjects are themes explored in Urban Life, the new drama premiering on Pearl Magic Prime this December.

Produced by John W Katende Ssembajjwe and starring Sam Bagenda, Roberta Ssekabira, Victoria Nakabuye, Jonathan Ssubi, Fauziah Nakiboneka, Urban Life is a series that shows the youth of Uganda and neighbouring East African countries like you’ve never seen them.

Educational, entertaining, and engaging, the show is filled with suspense, humour, and tension, set to keep viewers glued to their screens with each episode.

Local Content Marketing Manager Brian Mulondo says: “We are excited to launch a new locally produced drama series, especially one for and about our younger audience. Uganda is a country with a large youth population of over 78% between the age of 15 – 30 years, and it’s important to show their unfiltered and honest stories. We look forward to the conversations that the show will spark amongst viewers, and we hope that audiences engage with the show’s subject matter even long after the credits have rolled.”

Mulondo concludes: “We remain committed to local productions and growing the country’s creative industry with each new project and production we take on.”

Set in an urban villa hostel, Urban Life’s various characters are driven by more than just the need to survive in the city. Our lead character is teenager Nancy, a fish out of water who has just moved from the village. Looking for a better life for her and her mother, how will she navigate the culture shock?

Themes explored on the show include domestic violence, sexual harassment, substance abuse, age gap sexual relations, and adults taking advantage of those younger than them. Life on the streets of Kampala is not for the faint-hearted.

Urban Life premieres on Pearl Magic Prime (DStv Channel 148 and GOtv Supa Channel 304), on 19 December at 7.30 pm airing every Monday to Wednesday. Don’t miss it, and don’t forget to visit @pearlmagicprime to stay up to date with this show as well as other exciting content on the channel.
