AC Milan aiming to stay unbeaten

AC Milan will attempt to close the gap on first-place Napoli. The Rossoneri will visit 12th-place Salernitana in Serie A, as the Italian top flight restarts following the 2022 World Cup break.

Stefano Pioli’s Rossoneri are eight points behind Napoli in the chase for the Scudetto. The reigning Serie A winners will feel confident that they can reduce the gap to first place to five points.

Napoli will visit Inter on Wednesday night in a massive clash at the San Siro. Salernitana picked up a 2-2 draw last season at Arechi Stadium.

The Granata fell 2-0 to AC Milan in the reverse fixture at San Siro, however. The Granata go into the game on a two-game losing streak.

Coach Davide Nicola will hope the World Cup break helped the team get back on track. Salernitana are 10 points above the relegation zone.

The bottom of the Serie A table has been so bad this season that Salernitana are in no danger of fighting relegation, for the time being.

Salernitana are in no danger of fighting for a top-six place either. They are 10 points off the European qualification places.

Up to six players could be missing for Pioli for the trip to the Arechi Stadium. Fode Ballo is out with a ligament injury.

Forwards Ante Rebic and Divock Origi are both ruled out until the middle of the month with injuries. Origi has been a major flop for AC Milan since arriving on a free from Liverpool.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan has a calf problem and could miss the game. Meanwhile, Alessandro Florenzi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are both out of action.

Nicola has fewer injury worries, as three players are receiving treatment currently. Goalkeeper Luigi Sepe is a doube with a muscle issue, as is midfielder Giulio Maggiore. Defender Pasquale Mazzocchi is ruled out with a knee injury.
