Serie A preview…..

The top clash from Serie A in this round is the meeting of Lazio and AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on the evening of Tuesday 24 January. The Rossoneri know they will face a stern test away to Le Aquile in the ‘Eternal City’, with host manager Maurizio Sarri expecting there to be little between the teams.

“They are the champions, a team of high quality and energy, with a great organisation from their coach,” noted Sarri. “We know it will be a difficult game, but we have shown progress in stages of the season and it will be a great manner of testing how we are in this moment.”

The round opens on Saturday with Verona v Lecce and Fiorentina v Torino sandwiching a clash which sees Napoli chase a victory away to Salernitana. The Partenopei have been inspired by Georgian sensation Kvicha Kvaratskhelia for much of this season, with former Internazionale president Massimo Moratti recently comparing his impact to that of the ‘original’ Ronaldo at the Nerazzurri in the late 1990s.

“They are different players, but the impact was similar,” Moratti said. “However, Ronaldo arrived in Italy and had somehow already broken through. I wish the Georgian to have the same career and explosion as the Brazilian. He will be decisive for Napoli’s victory with his talents.”

Sunday is headlined by Juventus and Atalanta meeting at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, with La Dea hoping to keep up the ‘edge’ they have had over the Bianconeri in recent times: the Bergamo club is unbeaten in their last six competitive meetings against Juve.

“It is true, we have had some good matches against Juventus,” noted Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini. “However, this all means very little in terms of relevance to this match. We must find a new path and motivation, one which calls us to express our football in the most clear way possible.”

Sunday also features Roma away to Speza, while Monday sees Internazionale chase three points at home when they welcome Empoli to the iconic San Siro.
