Uganda Civil Aviation prohibits travelers from taking pictures & videos at the Airport weeks after Ugandans exposed it’s workers for taking bribes

In a rather sensational move, The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority has controversially issued a directive prohibiting travelers from taking pictures and videos at the Airport weeks after its employees were shamelessly exposed for taking bribes and engaging in corruption related activities.

The groundbreaking move comes at the time when the Airport is still grappling with clearing its image in the public after a series of complaints from travelers relating to how extortionary some of the staff at the Airport can get when clearing travelers.

When the unfortunate incident happened, the authorities at the Airport encouraged the affected people to bring forth evidence that would be used to apprehend the culprits; however the latest move seems to affect any future efforts to gather evidence.

In one of the notices seen at the Airport, the Uganda Civil Aviation states, “Capturing videos and taking pictures is prohibited. Management”

However when bombarded on social media to explain what the controversial move was meant to achieve, the authority explained how some people were taking advantage of the situation to even film restricted areas like the terminal building.

“This is to clarify that the reminder message restricting photography and filming relates ONLY to operational restricted/sensitive areas within the terminal building (such as security screening areas and equipment, among other sensitive areas. Even journalists who access the terminal building for official coverage go through a formal clearance process before taking photos and videos of specific areas/activities. Recently, some people had adopted a practice of filming the security screening process and equipment,” part of the statement read.
