Obituary: The lives we lost in the last two weeks
Obituary: In the last two weeks alone, Uganda has lost prominent people including the Minister of State for Labor, Col Rtd Charles Okello Engola. Engola was shot to death by his bodyguard, Wilson Sabiti, on May 2, 2023. Sabiti would later commit suicide (by shooting). Engola was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Oyam district on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
However, since his death, a number of other prominent people have died under different circumstances.
Ibrahim Tusubira alias Isma Olaxes aka Jajja Iculi
Olaxes was shot dead in the same week as Engola, by n unknown gunman at 9pm near his residence in Kyanja, a city suburb of Kampala. Olaxes was a prominent vlogger. His murder remains a puzzle to crack for the security. The police a probe into his killing is underway. So far, three people including his driver have been arrested.
Simon Peter Mukhama
Mukhama, wo was the Secretary General of the Bible Society of Uganda died on Friday morning at Mengo hospital where he was rushed after a short illness. No cause of death has been talked about.
Rt Rev Daniel Othniel Wonasolo
wonasolo died two days ago. He was the Bishop Emeritus of North Mbale Diocese. It is alleged that he died at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital where he had spent a week at around 11 pm on Wednesday.
Bishop Gimadu served as the Bishop of the North Mbale Diocese from 2006 to 2014. He was succeeded by Bishop Samuel Gidudu.

During his tenure Bishop Gimadu trained and raised numerous clergy leaders through various training programs, promoted mission work, and encouraged greater involvement in church-founded schools.
Patricia Arinda Muhirwa
Arinda is said to have died on April 29, 2023 in where he was a student. Her cause of death has not been revealed. However, she was the daughter of Rogers Muhirwa, the for accounting officer in the Uganda Police Force. Arinda was buried on Saturday in Sheema.
Keith Muhakanizi
Although he died much earlier in Italy after a long battle with cancer, his death was followed by that Okello Engola (in that line as a prominent government official). He was laid to rest at his home in Ssembabule district.
Uttam Bhandari
He was the director, TFS financial services and was killed on Friday by a police officer identified as Ivan Wabwire. The killing followed a disagreement between the two. Wabwire was yesterday arrested at the Uganda-Kenya border.
Patrick Aloysius Okumu Ringa
The former State Minister for Public Service, Patrick Aloysius Okumu Ringa died Wednesday morning.
Family sources confirmed that Okumu Ringa, who also served as a Member of Parliament for Padyere County from 2001 to 2006 died after a long illness.
“He got a stroke about four years ago and has been living at his home in Naguru where he passed on this Wednesday morning,” a close family member told this publication.
