A tragic road crash along the Tororo–Iganga Highway this Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025 has claimed five people and left four others battling for their lives at Bugiri Hospital.
The fatal accident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m., involved a Toyota Hiace (commonly known as a ‘drone’) Reg. UBR 385J and a trailer (Reg. UBB 838H/UAD 390J) pulling a second unit.
According to Busoga East Police Spokesperson SP Michael Kafayo, the Hiace tried to overtake the trailer near Igogero Swamp, but in a tragic twist, swerved back into its lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle , only to slam right into the rear of the trailer.
Five people, including the Hiace driver, died instantly. One woman and three men were rushed to Bugiri Hospital in critical condition. The trailer driver is safe and voluntarily reported the crash to police.
Police have launched full investigations into the crash and are warning all motorists that overtaking can turn deadly in seconds .
