Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine and leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has reported that another of his bodyguards, Noah Mutwe, was abducted on May 15, 2025.

According to Bobi, armed men in a numberless double-cabin vehicle forcibly took Noah from his residence in Gombe, Wakiso District, after detaining his uncle and compelling him to lead them to the location. The abductors, described as resembling “thugs,” allegedly handcuffed the uncle before proceeding to abduct Noah. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

“They came like thugs, travelling in a numberless double-cabin vehicle. They first picked Noah Mutwe’s uncle and put him on handcuffs before ordering him to take them to comrade Noah Mutwe ‘s home in Gombe. They violently abducted him and took him away. His whereabouts are not known. They’re committing all these crimes against our people to instill fear in us and the entire population. But they’re giving us more reason to fight for a better country.” he posted on his official X page

This incident follows the recent abduction and alleged torture of Bobi’s chief bodyguard, Edward Ssebufu, known as Eddie Mutwe. On April 27, 2025, Eddie was reportedly seized by armed men in Mukono District and held incommunicado for over a week. He was later presented in court on May 5, facing charges including robbery, assault, and malicious damage to property. Bobi and other NUP officials have condemned these actions, citing them as part of a broader campaign to intimidate opposition members and suppress dissent

Human rights organizations like the Uganda Human Right’s Commission and legal bodies have expressed concern over these developments. The Uganda Law Society has called for the unconditional release of Eddie Mutwe and all political prisoners, emphasizing the need for transparency regarding their treatment and whereabouts. Additionally, the Uganda Medical Association has appealed to the government to allow Eddie Mutwe access to specialized medical treatment outside prison facilities, citing inadequate healthcare provisions within the prison system.

Bobi has criticized the government’s actions, stating that such tactics only strengthen their resolve to fight for a better Uganda.

The NUP has urged the public and the international community to hold the Ugandan government accountable for these actions and to support efforts aimed at ensuring justice and the protection of civil liberties in the country.
