It was chaos and heartbreak in Kinawataka last night after a sudden fire tore through a stretch of kiosks along the Ntinda–Kiwatule Road, leaving small business owners counting losses and wondering what sparked the inferno.

The blaze erupted around 10:00 PM on Tuesday, sending flames and smoke into the sky as shocked locals screamed for help. Luckily, no one was killed, but the destruction left many devastated.

The affected spot, known for its coffee joints, local hotels, and creative shops, was quickly swarmed by police and the Fire and Rescue Services, who raced to contain the flames before they spread to nearby buildings.

“We were relaxing, then suddenly people started shouting ‘fire’ We ran out and tried to save what we could,” said one vendor, still shaken by the ordeal.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson says the cause of the fire is still a mystery, but they have launched a full investigation to get to the bottom of it.

“Our teams are on ground collecting evidence and speaking to witnesses,”he confirmed .

As business owners sift through the ashes of their dreams, many are calling for better fire safety measures and regular inspections in high-risk trading zones.
