Police in Mukono District are currently investigating a shocking murder and kidnapping incident that occurred today, June 10, 2025.
The victim, 45-year-old Wayengera Godfrey, a prominent resident of Nsuube village, Director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Nsuube, and a staff member of Compassion Uganda, was allegedly kidnapped along with his wife by unknown assailants.
According to preliminary reports, Wayengera and his wife, Najabi Christine, were traveling from a burial in Mbale when they were intercepted by individuals wearing uniforms resembling those of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). The suspects reportedly claimed they were taking the couple to Mukono Police Station.
Patrick Onyango the KMP spokesperson says instead of proceeding to the police station, the couple was diverted to Kyungu road. Onyango reveals that it was there that Wayengera Godfrey was brutally killed. His wife, Najabi Christine, was subsequently taken to Jinja Misindye in Goma Division, where she was abandoned.
He says fortunately, Najabi was later rescued and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Onyango further notes that following the incident, police responded to the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and transported Wayengera’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
He adds that authorities also recovered a motor vehicle, a Fielder with registration number UBP 520A, from Jinja Misindye in Goma Division. The vehicle is now parked at the police station as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police confirm that the suspects remain at large.
