NRM Nominations

Kyadondo Road is buzzing as the NRM nomination enters day two in full swing with big names sweeping in to claim their spots for the 2026 elections.

Heavyweights like Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, Vincent Ssempijja were duly nominated today.

Others like Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, and Energy Minister Phiona Nyamutoro have all been nominated, joined by PM Robinah Nabbanja, Speaker Anita Among (unopposed), VP Jessica Alupo, Health Minister Jane Aceng, Rukia Nakadama, Gen. Moses Ali, plus MPs Henry Musasizi, Frank Tumwebaze, Lillian Akello, and Anifa Kawooya.

The NRM Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong says more than 2,000 hopefuls are eyeing over 560 seats, setting the stage for a fierce showdown: “Every constituency has more than two contenders, which is healthy,” he noted, urging losers not to go rogue by running as independents.

Some aspirants like Frank Rukanirwa is gunning to dethrone Security Minister Jim Muhwezi in Rujumbura, while Asha Lumoro makes a dramatic Sironko comeback, setting her sights on Woman MP after clashing with Minister Florence Nambozo three years ago.

Nominations continue until June 30, followed by complaints between July 1–4, with campaign season kicking off July 1–14.

District offices are equally busy as local mayor and SIG hopefuls turn in their papers.

NRM EC’s Dr. Tanga Odoi says everything’s “on track” as the race edges towards primary battles next month where the real fireworks are expected.
