100,000 National IDs Produced

After weeks of waiting, speculation, and side whispers, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has officially announced that production of national IDs is back in full swing, and yes, the first batch is already out!

Addressing the nation on Monday morning with a dose of long-awaited hope, NIRA Registrar General Claire Olama proudly revealed that 100,000 national ID cards were printed just last week and have already been dispatched to various corners of the country.

“This morning, I bring you good news. We’ve now entered week seven since I began giving these updates, and I’m happy to report that production of National IDs has resumed. Congratulations to us all Ugandans are finally getting what’s due to them” Olama declared with a smile.

Those who’ve been waiting and praying for that magic SMS can now start checking their phones. NIRA says messages are being sent out indicating where individuals can pick up their IDs, usually from the place where their biometrics were captured.

“So when you receive that message, it will say: ‘Dear Akello Brenda, your application for renewal of a national ID has been processed. You can pick it from Rubaga or Makindye.’ The message will be clear and precise,” Olama explained.

She also had a subtle clapback for skeptics who doubted whether the IDs would ever be ready.

“To the doubting Thomases , the skeptical lot who said ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’ this is your sign. Cards are being printed, dispatched, and collected,” she said.

Still, the NIRA boss urged patience among applicants whose cards may not have been included in the first batch.

“Be still and patient. If you haven’t yet received the message, it’s coming. We’re working hard to ensure every Ugandan gets their ID,” Olama assured.

With this latest update, NIRA hopes to silence public frustration and rebuild trust in a process that had many citizens losing faith.
