Police Impound Taxi, Arrest Driver
Police have impounded a passenger service vehicle (PSV) seen in a now-viral TikTok video recklessly transporting a man seated on a wooden chair atop its roof as it cruised through a city suburb in Kampala.
The bizarre and dangerous stunt, which sparked outrage and mockery online, has been confirmed by Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) officials, who say the driver has since been arrested and is facing charges related to endangering the lives of road users.
According to KMP Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, investigations revealed that the video, widely shared on TikTok with the caption “Kili Kampala”, was not just a random act of madness, but a deliberate stunt orchestrated by a TikToker seeking online fame.
“The TikToker paid the taxi driver UGX 20,000 to pull the stunt, which involved him sitting on a chair fastened to the roof of the taxi while it was in motion,” Owoyesigyire revealed.
Police say the driver was arrested on the spot and will be charged with reckless driving and carrying a passenger in a dangerous position, both offenses under Uganda’s Traffic and Road Safety Act.
“This was a serious risk not only to the man seated on top but to other road users. This is not comedy it’s criminal,” Owoyesigyire insisted.

The TikToker involved in the act is still on the run, but police say his identification is underway and his arrest is imminent.
“We are currently hunting for the individual who appeared in the video and paid for the stunt. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” the police spokesperson added.
Police have warned the public against using public roads for social media stunts, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated.
“Social media is not a license for recklessness. We urge all content creators to act responsibly and think about the consequences of their actions,” Owoyesigyire concluded.
The incident is the latest in a series of risky TikTok challenges taking root in Kampala, with police now calling on influencers and digital platforms to help curb the trend before it leads to serious injury or worse.
