It’s official, if your child is not on UNEB’s list by now, they’re out of the 2025 exams.
The Uganda National Examinations Board has closed its portals after a four-month registration period that began on April 1st, 2025.
Some parents had to cough up double fees just to beat the deadline.
UNEB’s Executive Director Dan Odongo issued the final warning in a statement on 31st July.
“Today is the last day for the latest phase of registration… All school portals will be closed and UNEB will no longer receive registration data for this year’s candidates,” he said.
In April and May, registration was smooth , parents paid the regular fees: UGX 34,000 for PLE, UGX 164,000 for UCE, and UGX 186,000 for UACE. Come June, things got spicy, latecomers had to pay 50% extra. But in July, the real pressure hit as fees doubled. That means parents shelled out up to UGX 372,000 for UACE registration alone.
UNEB says that now it’s game over. No more entries will be accepted. Odongo says the next step is for schools to pin candidate lists on their notice boards. And if you’re not sure your child was registered, you’ll be able to check via SMS soon.

In a surprise twist, UNEB revealed that 1.4 million candidates have registered up from 1.3 million last year!
“A total of 1,415,857 candidates have registered for this year’s examinations. That’s a 6.8% jump from last year’s 1,319,139.” he mentioned
