A Makerere University finalist, Elson Tumwine, will spend two months behind bars after admitting to posting a TikTok video criticizing President Yoweri Museveni and Speaker Anita Among.

Tumwine, who had recently gone missing during an internship in Hoima, reappeared in court last week and pleaded guilty before Magistrate Tibayeita Edgar Tusiime in Entebbe.

In the video posted in May, he accused the President of past atrocities in the Teso region and questioned the Speaker’s approach to national apologies. Prosecutors said the content was intended to ridicule or incite hostility against top government officials.

The magistrate noted that Tumwine’s guilty plea and apology helped reduce the sentence.

He now becomes the sixth person jailed over TikTok videos targeting President Museveni, his family, or senior leaders.
