A wave of transfers has swept through the Uganda Prisons Service as senior officers were shuffled in a dramatic shake-up aimed at tightening discipline and improving performance nationwide.

The new list, signed off by Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine, has seen some big names switched around and others stepping into powerful new roles.

At the top, Aliyo Naatukunda has been handed the influential post of Acting Commissioner in charge of Legal and Human Rights, while seasoned officer Brenda Sana has been shifted to head Human Resource Planning and Development at headquarters. Meanwhile, Robert Jolly Bamutura bounces back to Estates and Engineering, and pensions will now be handled by Ben Nyanzi Nicomedie Ahimbisibwe.

The shake-up has also hit the districts. Ronald Mukwoli is the new boss in Kalungu, Michael Padde goes to Bugiri, and William Ochwo heads to Tororo. Kumi District has seen a changing of the guard with Geoffrey Poro replacing long-serving officer Patrick Emojong, who heads into retirement.

There are fresh deployments in the central region too. Lillian Asello takes charge as Staff Officer, while Zaia Munobwa grabs the keys at Busaana Prisons, stepping in for Ms. Juliet Alero, who is taking her leave.

Even at the grassroots, the shake-up is visible: deputy officers have been confirmed across several stations, from Nyabuhikye and Kanoni to Arua, Masaka, Mubuku, Aswa II, and Ibuga.

All commanders have been ordered to ensure handovers are done immediately, with the Uganda Prisons Service warning that the new appointments are already in force.
