Police in Kampala Metropolitan have on Monday mounted a sharp operation that led to multiple arrests and impounding of over 200 motorcycles.

During an operation carried out on Monday afternoon, several riders and passengers caught on each Boda Boda were both taken to police cells for violating the Ministry of Health guidelines.

The president has since maintained that Boda Boda operators only carry luggage daily up to 5 pm because carrying passengers breaks social distancing guidelines and could lead to the spread of the Coronavirus.

According to a Press Release from police , these arrests stem from a continued violation of the presidential directives on the containment of the spread of the novel Coronavirus by boda-boda motorcyclists,

The suspects being held at the Kampala Metropolitan Police area will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders and doing acts likely to spread infectious disease which is a coronavirus.

Police say this will serve as a warning to people who continue to defy the regulations o motorcycles.

 

They have appealed to motorcyclists to stop carrying passengers and to only carrying luggage.
