A total of over 50 persons have been held under mandatory 14-day quarantine following the death of a 34-year-old woman on Wednesday who presented with signs and symptoms of COVID-10.
The deceased was a Kenyan national married to a Ugandan man in Mabyale Sub County in Namisindwa district.
She was rushed to Joyce Hospice Health Centre in a critical state on Wednesday but died shortly after.
COVID 19 Surveillance teams in Mbale and Namisindwa Districts have traced and isolated over 50 people believed to have in contact with the deceased as they await results of the patient.
Some of the contacts have been quarantined in Namisindwa district while others remain at the health facility in Mbale that has since been cordoned off and is now out of bounds to the public.
Among those quarantined currently are 16 health workers of Joy Hospice Center in Mbale City and more than 30 people said to be contacts of a female patient
The surveillance team in Mbale is now tracing for the people who were at the health center at the time the deceased was hospitalized to be quarantined for the mandatory 14 days.
The Health Ministry Spokesperson, Emmanuel Ainebyoona confirmed on Wednesday that samples had been drawn from the deceased and taken for testing at Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe
