A female activist has dragged to court Local Musician Shafik Walukaga alias Fik Fameica , producer Martin Musoke alias Artin Pro and the Uganda Communications Commission-UCC, over a song.

Through her lawyers of New Mark Advocates Prasidia Nagasha, has written a formal application to the High Court Civil Division asking it to ban a song titled ‘Property’ that was released by Fik in 2018.

Nagasha contends that the song promotes the culture of undermining women and girls in society by equating them to property worth purchasing and owning.

In her petition,Nagasha says the song has lyrics like “My woman is my property” my woman is my Chapatti, my yogurt and my Bugatti.

She is now seeking the court’s declaration on a permanent ban and listening of the in Uganda.

She also wants the court to compel both the artist and producer to apologize to women in Uganda in all newspapers of wide readership, Television, Radio and YouTube.

Nagasha also wants court to declare that Uganda Communications Commission failed in its duty of protecting Ugandans and consumers of media services from harmful content like the one allegedly promoted by Fameica in his song.

This is not the first time someone is complaining about this song.

In 2019, a section of youths under Plan International Uganda petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga and the Minister for Information, Communications, Technology and National Guidance asking them to ban the song.

Fik’s rap has not yet commented on the matter as his assistant said they are still consulting.
