A woman in Kampala has threatened to drag the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola to court for being injured by a tear gas canister unless she is compensated 500 million shillings.

Agnes Nakavuma, a resident of Kirombe Nsambya is currently hospitalized at St Francis Hospital Nsambya nursing injuries on the right upper limb and right part of her abdomen she reportedly sustained while cops were dispersing a procession on October 15th, 2020.

The procession was organized by the Makindye West Division Legislator, Allan Ssewanyana moments after being nominated.

Nakavuma says she was walking to the market along Makindye-Mubaraka to buy fruits and vegetables for her business when she was hit.

Through her lawyers, Nalukoola, Kakeeto Advocates, Nakavuma, says that their client has undergone several surgical operations and more have been recommended.

The lawyers are now demanding compensation of Shillings 500million for their clients and Shillings 10 million for legal fees payable within 14days failure of which will leave them no option but to commence legal proceedings against the police boss.

The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Area Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire says they are aware of what happened to Nakavuma but there are two versions of the incident.

He says there are allegations that Nakavuma was among the protesters when the tear gas canister fell and landed on her arm. He however says the police legal team will look into the petition and advise a way forward.
