Today the 9th November 2020, is the day that campaigns for the presidential, parliamentary and local council for the 2021 general polls start across the country.

According to the Electoral Commission, the campaigns will last 60 days for the presidential and parliamentary candidates as they gear up for elections set for January 14th, 2021.

Last week the EC interacted with presidential candidates to harmonize their campaign schedules to avoid clashing at the same place in the field.

Justice Byabakama the EC chief advised the candidates to adhere to the EC guidelines that among others include maintaining the number of 70 people for campaign meetings.

Byabakama said candidates will hold campaign meetings, in a regulated manner, preferably outdoors, with limited attendance of a maximum of 70 persons. He cautioned against public rallies.

He asked candidates to keep campaign time between 8 am to 6 pm and also maintain all Standard Operating Procedures -SOPs to avoid the spread of covid-19.

 

The incumbent president Yoweri Museveni has already released his campaign schedule for this week on radio and tv that starts 2day in Buganda, Lango, and West Nile.

Museveni starts his campaign in Luweero before heading to lira and Apac.

Museveni has announced on his  social media.

”Today is Day One of our campaign trail. I will meet our NRM party leaders from the Greater Luweero area and thereafter speak to our people through radio and TV#SecuringYourFuture.”Museveni stated.

The FDC Presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat is to launch his campaign in Soroti District where he will also launch his Manifesto today barefoot as he has promised

Amuriat was whisked off by police from the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi  to Kyamboggo for nomination where he was dumped without shoes, it’s upon this that he decided to run a footless campaign,

Addressing journalists today at his residence in Najjera, Wakiso District, on Sunday, Amuriat said he will lead a procession of party leaders and some supporters to Eastern Uganda where his campaigns will officially start.

He is making stopovers at Jinja and Mbale before proceeding to Soroti.

Bobi wine starts his campaigns at  Arua, Nebbi before going to Kitgum, He successfully launched his Manifesto, the NUP manifesto is is based on what they have termed as the ‘Fist five’ focusing on people-centered governance, Equal access to quality health and education services, Inclusive economic development among others.

Gen Tumukunde will start his campaign on Tuesday in Rukungiri, Fred Mwesigye starts off in Kampala, Nancy kalembe will be in Jinja while Joseph Kabuleta will be in Gulu.

DP’s Nobert Mao and ANT’s Mugisha Muntu are yet to submit their campaign program to the EC for approval.
