49 supporters and confidants NUP strongman Robert Kyagulanyi have arrived at the court-martial today for a hearing of their bail application.
The group that includes singer Ali Bukeni aka Nubian Li and private security guard Eddy Ssebufu aka Eddie Mutwe, have been on remand at Kitalya govt prison for more than a month now.

However, anxious relatives who swarmed the court-martial premises have been sent away because they were many in number and social distancing would be impossible in the COVID situation.
Present at the court is NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi who says they expect that court will grant justice to the suspects and grant them bail.

The prosecution alleges that all the 49 suspects and others still at large on January 3, at Makerere Kavule Kigundu zone, were found in possession of four rounds of ammunition which is a monopoly of the Defense Forces.
They initially appeared before the court-martial chaired by Lt General Andrew Gutti to get bail on 01st Feb, but their case was deferred to 8th Feb 2021.

This s after the state prosecutor Maj Emmy Ekyaruhanga argued that the state needs more time to scrutinize their bail application documents, including particulars of their sureties.
The last time the suspects appeared in court, it stirred negative reaction from the NUP party members after some seemed tortured as they arrived either limping or carried by colleagues, singer Nubian’s signature dreads had equally been cut off.

They told the army court that they had been tortured after their arrest and needed medication that could not be provided by prison authorities.
