The Forum for Democratic Change -FDC has demanded that the internal affairs minister JJ Odongo reveals the identities of the security operatives in detention who were responsible for kidnapping Ugandans before and after the general polls.

The FDC spokesperson John Kigonyogo was responding on Monday to statements made by Odongo last week at parliament while giving a report on missing persons.

Odongo while presenting a report on missing persons on Thursday last week mentioned that 44 people were reported missing but 31 were unaccounted for .before and after the general polls.

According to the report, there are 44 cases of alleged kidnap,7 were not kidnapped but were arrested, charged, and released on bail.4were not kidnapped but arrested. While 31 cases are to be investigated and traced.

Kikonyongo while addressing a presser at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday says it is a shame that the internal affairs ministry cannot even account for missing persons.

He adds that Uganda is reaching a time where people are safer outside than inside their homes because most people are being picked up from home.

”We used to have those stages during Obote’s time, where it was safer to be in the bush than at home, don’t push our children to those levels,Mr JJ up your game, he said”

Kikonyongo also says they are aware that a number of security operatives who picked up people and arrested them at unknown destinations have also been detained and they want more information on their operations made public.

‘We heard that there are some people who are doing this who have been arrested , those operatives, we demand to know their names what roles they were involved in and who they arrested and those who were arrested, what is their status , were they tortured,he added.”
Kikonyogo is also demanding that the government takes these security operatives to court for kidnap and torture of civilians.

‘Is the govt willing to take these operatives of theirs to court, to answer to charges of abducting Ugandans, picking someone as early as 3 am,a day has 24 hours, why can’t you do it in these 12 hours, you don’t only injure the person you are arresting but you are hurting a family and children for  life .he warned”
