The Supreme Court has set the 18th of March 2021 as the date for judgment on the election petition case filed by the National Unity Platform-NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi challenging President Yoweri Museveni’s victory.
In the meantime, the court has directed all legal parties to file their affidavits within the set timelines to avoid interfering with time that has already been used up.
The Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny- Dollo, speaking on behalf of the 9 man panel of justices gave the NUP legal team up to 14th Feb 2021 to file their affidavits while Museveni’s legal team has up to February 20 to file their affidavits in response.
Both legal teams will also cross-examine witnesses and present electronic evidence between February 25 and 26.
After which 30 minutes of oral submissions will happen on March, 5, for both sides, then the NUP lawyers will have a chance to respond to the submissions in 20 minutes.
The Supreme Court will use March 7 and 17 to look through the arguments by both sides before delivering its judgment on March 18.
