Police in Mbale city has launched a hunt for a drunken private security guard at a secondary school who fired live bullets injuring a senior 4 student last night.
Noah Otaki a student at Bugisu High School boarding found in Northern City Division suffered grave injuries after a live bullet hit his right hand.
The guard whose identity is still unknown and is on the run was reportedly reeking of alcohol when he opened fire on Otaki.
One of the students at the scene says the guard stormed the administration block around 9:00 pm where an argument was ongoing over theft and demanded that the students return to their dormitories.
After several attempts to chase the students away, the guard returned to his security room, picked up a gun n fired randomly at the students.
Police officers under the command of Arafat Kato, the Officer In-charge-OC of Mbale Central Police station rushed to the scene and cooled down students who wanted to riot.
