The Supreme Court has received  53 affidavits from the National Unity platform-NUP presidential challenger Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, filed as evidence challenging President Yoweri Museveni’s January 14th election victory.

This is the last evidence that the petitioner will be presenting in court after the deadline given by the supreme court to file evidence ended on the  14th Feb.

Anthony Wameli the lead counsel in this petition says the evidence collected canvases all the 26 grounds they have filed in their election petition which include among others non-compliance, offenses committed by Yoweri Museveni, violations by the state and government agencies where army generals were involved.

Wameli however says it was a difficult process collecting this evidence since some of their witnesses were either sick or in jail.

The affidavits are filed by the former Presidential candidate Joseph Kabuleta, Jinja East Constituency MP Paul Mwiru, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake and Gerald Karuhanga the MP Ntungamo Municipality among others.

In their affidavits, they allege ballot stuffing, multiple voting by UPDF personnel, security forces putting their polling agents on gunpoint among others.

In his petition, Kyagulanyi cites 26 grounds for nullification of the presidential election and request for re-election these include among others, voter bribery, intimidation of voters, heavy deployment of security,  arrests, and killings during the election season.

The legal team to the 1st respondent Yoweri Museveni says they are already reading through the affidavits and will respond.

Supreme Court has set March 18th as the date for ruling on the election petition case.
