Police in Ntinda are investigating a 25-year-old man for selling stolen number plates to his victims.
Farouk Matovu a resident of Nakawa has reportedly been in the business of plucking off number plates from people’s cars in the night and leaving his contact in their vehicle, instructing them to buy back the number plates.
Matovu has also been hawking the very number plates in the areas of Ntinda, Kiwatule, Kulambiro, Naguru, and surrounding areas.
Kampala metropolitan police mouthpiece Luke Owoyesigirye says the suspect who has been trailed by police for a long time now was nabbed on Tuesday night by OC Ntinda police station.
Owoyesigirye says Matovu has confessed to hiding these number plates in a nearby bush or burying them in nearby gardens or in heaped rubbish near the victim’s residence.
About nine number plates have been recovered from Kigoowa, Northern Bypass, Kiwatule and Kulambiro.
They include : UBA 670Q, UAT 783Y, UAW 379Y, UAR 859K, UBB 475N, UAR 261K, UAJ 019P, UAH 907Q and UAR 859K.
