Pope Francis has appointed Rev Paul Ssemogerere to temporarily take over fromthe late Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga as the Apostolic Administrator of the Kampala archdiocese.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Luinchi Bianco,the Papal Nuncio of Uganda.

Papal Nuncio made the announcement at Lubaga cathedral during the burial of the late Dr .Cyprian Lwanga .

According to Bianco, Rev Ssemogerere will oversee and exercise his responsibility as an Apostolic Administrator until such a time when a new archbishop has been appointed.

Bishop Ssemogerere, a former Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish in Kampala is a popular choice in the Archdiocese.

He is a Roman Catholic prelate who is the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, in Uganda.

He was appointed bishop of Kasana-Luweero on 4 June 2008.

 He was consecrated as bishop on 23 August 2008 at Kasana-Luweero by Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, Archbishop of Kampala, assisted by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, Cardinal-Priest of Sant’Ugo, and Cardinal Emeritus of Kampala and Archbishop Paul Tschang In-Nam, Titular Archbishop of Amantia and Papal Nuncio to Uganda at that time.

The late Dr. Lwanga, Archbishop of Kampala diocese was appointed archbishop of Kampala in August 2006 and served for 15 years.

He died from a heart attack at his residence on Saturday morning .

Archbishop Lwanga has been buried inside the Lubaga cathedral on Thursday.
