Busted Selling Fake Covidex
As the newly approved wonder drug Covidex circulates the market in pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics at unregulated prices, some people are taking advantage to deal with fake versions of the same drug.
Covidex,a natural herbal drug was recently approved by the National drug Authority -NDA as a supportive treatment in managing the vicious covid 19.
The wonder drug has since skyrocketed in price at various selling points from 80000 to 200000 in some places and has even run out of stock in others.
3 persons have now been busted by NDA officials for selling fake Covidex to unsuspecting victims following intelligence information.
This follows an operation by the NDA that started 12 days ago to crack down on persons selling fake versions of the supplementary drug.
The operation that is ongoing has so far visited the 5 divisions of Kampala combing through over 300 drug outlets and suspected offices.

James William Tamale the NDA greater Kampala mouthpiece says they have managed to confiscate over 300 bottles of fake covidex from the homes of the suspects following intelligence-led information.
”of these 169 were pharmacies,152 drug shops,59 clinics.156 were licensed,13 were issued closure notices.”He stated
He told journalists today during a presser at their offices that the 3 suspects are being held at Wandegeya police post for dealing in an illegal business as pharmacists.
He says the suspects will be charged under section 14(3) of the National Drug Policy and Authority Cap 206.
Among the arrested include; Daniel Lule a clinical officer at st peters Nansana, Allan Kaitala an employee at Softex Ago chemicals ltd, and Samuel Waswa a barber with brotherhood saloon in Wandegeya.
