Man Buried Alive

A sand mine in the Luwero district has caved in, killing a 25-year-old taxi operator from Kampala on the spot.

The deceased  Richard Magunda was working at the sand mine at Kisanga village, Kibirizi Parish in Bamunanika Sub-County when it buried him alive.

Magunda died while digging under an anthill above which collapsed on him.

His colleagues who were also digging in the same mine but meters away rushed to report the incident to the chairman and other rescuers.

Kisanga village LC 1 chairman Robert Kavuma says Magunda had recently traveled from Kampala where he was driving a taxi for a living following the 42-day lockdown.

The chairman explains that Magunda had started engaging in any casual business he could find for survival.

Chairman Kavuma says that the victim had also recently started mining sand only now to be buried by falling soil.

Kavuma says they notified Bamunanika police that has since launched investigations.
