A 100yr old woman in the Nansana municipality-Wakiso district has raised an alarm accusing her local authorities of grabbing land she has owned for over 50 years.

Lovisa Nanyonga, a local of Nabweru South cell I in Nansana Division in Nansana Municipality, claims she gave a portion of her 3-acre piece to her area LC I Chairperson, for cultivation but she decided to grab it.

Nanyonga says the LC identified as Dorothy Nankya has since falsely claimed ownership of the land knowing too well there was never such an agreement to sell it to her.

Nanyonga says despite her age, the memory still serves her right and she is certain that Nankya forged papers and has forcefully taken over all the 3 acres without her consent.

In Luganda She narrates;” She replaced my crops with eucalyptus trees, Just the way you see am living in tears, I have no peace, I have no plan, I haven’t eaten for days and have nowhere to cultivate, help me…”

However, Nankya, her LC1 denies these claims, she claims to possess all the paper work proving she is the landowner.

”I bought this land from her and have all the documents showing I am the owner, I would like for her to go to court because I also have witnesses.”Nankya asserts

A section of Locals at Nabweru south cell I, claim the disputed land belongs to Nanyonga who inherited it from her late father.

They now want Nankya to produce evidence pertaining to her ownership before the village council instead of threatening the old woman.

Teopista Kaddu, a member of the former Village Council, says that misunderstandings on the land started in 2015 with the death of the former LC I Chairperson who reportedly allowed Nankya to cultivate the contested land.
