The 23-year-old man accused of falsely declaring President Museveni dead will be produced before the Luwero Chief Magistrate’s court for mention of his case.

Jamir Ssekyondwa was netted from his hideout in Luwero in mid-July 2021 for spreading false propaganda about the health and life of the head of state.

Ssekyondwa a local from Kabunyata Trading Centre in Kamira Sub-County appeared before the Luwero chief magistrate where he was charged with offensive communication contrary to section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011.

The prosecution said that on July 5, 2021, Ssekyondwa used his phone to send messages to another number alleging that President Yoweri Museveni had passed on, well knowing that he was sending a falsehood.

Efforts to secure himself bail were futile after Cheif magistrate Samuel Munobe said the suspect risked escaping if he was released.

Prior to that, state attorney Peace Bashabe refused his bail application citing the fact that he had no surety or permanent residence.

He was then remanded until August 13, 2021, when he is returning for the hearing of the case.

Ssekyondwa’s prosecution comes on the heels of the reported arrest of stern Turkey-based Ugandan blogger Lumbuye Fred who faces deportation to Uganda.

Lumbuye is viewed as a criminal in the justice and security circles and faces 15 counts including inciting violence, offensive communication if he steps foot here.

Lumbuye in a video posted on his YouTube channel on July 2nd claimed that Museveni was deceased and that his death wish to the family was to be declared dead after 1 year, He also claimed First Lady Janet Museveni secretly met with opposition giant Dr Kizza Besigye to execute the death wish.

CID police spokesperson Charles Twiine in July warned the stingy blogger against fronting fake news about the death of President Museveni. He warned that a hunt was on for all persons who not only instigated but also shared the fake reports.

It’s a scheme for some people who are actually outside that are trying to create grounds for getting political asylum,” he said. “The different jurisdictions have been notified by police management and through diplomatic channels that if they are to give them asylum, it should be on other grounds not that we are politically persecuting them.”Twine said
